Book Proposals

Merlin Press has been publishing books since 1957. We publish on a wide variety of subjects, with our main focus being on social and political issues, considered from critical left-wing, progressive and radical perspectives. If you have a proposal for a non-fiction book you think would fit our remit then we would love to hear from you.

Please prepare your book proposal by following our Proposal Guidelines below. When your proposal is ready, please email it along with any accompanying documents, such as draft chapters, to nik@merlinpress.co.uk

We will endeavour to respond to your email as soon as we can, but please allow up to two months in busy periods.

Proposal Guidelines

  • A motivation: what made you write? What is distinctive in your text? Please no more than 200 words.
  • What is the intended market for the text? Who will want to read it?
  • An outline and a draft table of contents, including chapter headings.
  • What is your proposed title and subtitle?
  • What is the overall word count? (We prefer books with less than 60,000 words).
  • When might you deliver a final text?
  • Perhaps a sample chapter.
  • Some details about yourself; also, an email address and phone number. Will you want to talk about your text at events?
  • If this is an edited work, with several contributors, please tell us about the various contributors. Please note, we like to work with one editor
